Service

For the past four years, I have volunteered as an usher and auction-worker at the Bishop's Annual Pro-Life Banquet in the Diocese of Fort Worth. A team of young individuals (including myself) participates every year in helping set up the auction, decorate tables, guide people to their seats, sell raffle tickets, and clean-up after the event. It in total takes 8 hours from start to finish, which is a lot of time to spend on our feet! :)

As a volunteer, I worked collaboratively with others throughout the entire night, making sure that everything was in its proper place and everyone knew where they were supposed to go. There are usually 100+ tables in the banquet room, and so having a map of the entire room is certainly helpful! There are times where we still get confused though, so communication between the adults and teen volunteers is really importatnt. :)

Something else the I find important to do every year at this event is to consider the ethical implications of my actions. Obviously, participating in a fundraiser for such a controversial topic is a big deal. However, this is something that I really care about because it's my passion to help people. I am always eager to participate in activities like this because it helps raise money for the women who find themselves in difficult situations. I look forward to volunteering at this event for years to come.
